The Mystic Blender

This was a simple decorative lamp I whipped up one evening. The base is from an optic fiber lit Christmas tree I purchased back in 2001. They were all the rage that year, until they were recalled due to fire hazard. The base contains a lamp and a motorized rotating colored gel. Originally, this shone onto a thick bundle of optical fibers, which were threaded throughout the miniature artificial Christmas tree. It actually looked quite impressive.

In order to fix the fire hazard, I drilled a few extra holes in the base for increased ventilation. I also painted over the cheezy antiqued gold plastic with matte black spray paint. Unfortunately, I couldn't do anything about the Christmas trees shown in relief on each of the four sides.

The top is an interesting glass vase I found at the local Michaels Craft Store. Inside are 800 clear oil glass marbles. I ended up adding four rubber bumpons to the top edge of the base, both to provide a gap under the vase for further ventilation and to prevent the vase from sliding off the top. The whole thing ended up looking like a bizarre blender, which explains the name.
