A Note on Dimensions:
While strapping tape comes in standard widths (such as the 3/4" width used here),
there is apparently no standard for the length of the tape supplied on a roll.
Thus, the overall diameter of a new roll can vary from brand to brand. The builder
must therefore take measurements for the specific brand of tape he is using, and
construct accordingly. Use the above key for determining the dimensions
used in the instructions below.
Determining overall length:
In general, the longer the bola, the more effective it is as an entangling device.
The longer the ropes, the more forgiving the aim (which is important, as bolas can be
difficult to use), and the greater the chance of entangling the target
on impact. Ultimately, the length is a matter of personal preference.
However, a length a bit shorter than the intended user is tall is a convenient
rule of thumb. Anything longer, and the bola can be difficult to handle prior to use.
