Roll the doubled tape segments onto the rolls, with approximately half
of the segment on each side. Insert one end of the spring assembly into
a roll, making sure that both hooks catch on the inner ring of the plastic
insert.
|
 |
Place the second tape roll on the spring assembly, again making sure that
the two hooks are properly installed.
|
 |
Compress the spring assembly until the two tape rolls are side-by-side.
Thread the legs of the arming pin into the top bends of the "V" on the
short side of the spring mechanism, as shown.
|
 |
Slide pin across tape roll as shown. Pin should now hold the spring in tension
without assistance. If the pin bends, either remove some of the rubber bands or
use a heavier gauge wire.
|
 |
The assembly is now complete. Make sure that the overlapped tape segment is
tightly wound around the tape rolls. It will be necessary to crease the tape
segment in order to make the "tail" lie flat against the sides. A small piece
of tape should be used to secure the tail. This piece of tape should be as small
as possible, and should easily peel away from the sides on deployment. Masking
tape works well for this purpose, as does conventional Scotch tape. The adhesive
may be weakened for the purpose by repeatedly pressing a thumb against
it prior to use.

The grenade can be fastened onto clothing by improvised hooks or other mechanisms.
Simply thread the hook through the long end of the spring mechanism.
